Nicknames

Putting the nickname of a name directly on the birth certificate has long been a popular pastime.  Traditional nicknames such as Maggie (Margaret) and Ben (Benjamin) have stood alone for decades.  But today, with more and more parents calling their children by their full and formal first name, nicknames are slowly fading away.  Also, a certain nickname may age fast when the child grows up and may prove a bit too wispy for an adult.  For example, can you imagine being 75 and being Grandma Lexi?  It seems all too difficult to picture.  But, if you would still like to use a nickname for your child, then here are some examples that can prove substantial enough for every age group:

Top 20 Names for 2010

Here are the top 20 names, male and female, for 2010.  I was kind of surprised to see that this is Isabella's second year as number 1, because it was once so exotic.  This is Jacob's twelfth year as king of boys' names, dethroning the old stalwart Michael in 1999 after being the top name for several decades.  Jayden, epitomized by young actor Jaden Smith, stands firmly in 4th place with a new spelling.  For the first time since 1983, Joshua has dropped out of the Top 10 baby boy names, but is still hanging on at number 11.  Addison, riding in tandem with sound-alike Madison, has also hit the number 11 spot.  Yet another intriguing fact: half of the Top 20 boys' names are biblical.  Anyway, this list is definitely worth a look if you are seeking a name for your child, or are interested in names and/or their popularity.

Hi everyone!  I am 12 years old and a great lover of baby names.  I use the name Kinsey-Leigh because I thought it would be cool to have a nom de plume.  I might post some videos on here that include names and such, so be sure to check out my blog.  I already have two name videos on YouTube, and here is the link for my channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Iski947?feature=mhee.  Thanks!

Kinsey-Leigh xxx

PS: My real name is Isabel aka Izzy or Iski.;)
